Jeff‘s interest in art began at a young age, spending his days drawing & painting. This growing passion led him to seek a mentorship with a professional artist at the age of 9. For years he spent hours every week, painting with his mentor and a group of local artists. It was during this time Jeff learned the foundational skills that he would hone over the next nine years. This was also where Jeff began to explore multiple media including acrylics, water color, soft pastel and oils. The hours and hours of painting and drawing allowed Jeff to develop a sensitive touch and confidence for every medium.
Eventually Jeff moved on to the University of Kansas where he earned a bachelors degree in painting. While at KU Jeff continued to grow and evolve his style exploring the impressionist masters and abstract expressionism. Jeff found he enjoyed the play of energetic brush strokes against the dragging of the thick palette knife, allowing the paint to drip and spread to find its own expression. These explorations can still be seen in Jeff’s work today.
Using a combination of energy, movement, color and technique to build layers of history on the canvas to create visual interest, Jeff continuously looks for ways to capture and hold a viewer’s attention.
